Overview
LabelGauge ("we", "our", or "us") helps users analyze product ingredient lists, barcodes, and product pages for potential ingredient concerns. This policy explains what user data the browser extension and related web services collect, how that data is used, where it is stored, who it is shared with, and how you can request deletion.
Chrome Web Store limited use disclosure: We use user data only to provide and improve LabelGauge's ingredient analysis, product lookup, preference sync, subscription, support, security, and abuse-prevention features. We do not sell user data, use it for personalized advertising, or transfer it for advertising or unrelated purposes.
Information We Collect
Extension and Product Analysis Data
- Current page information: When you choose to analyze a page, the extension may read the page URL, page title, product name, product brand, product identifiers, visible product text, and related page content needed to find ingredients.
- Ingredient text: We process ingredient lists extracted from web pages, pasted by you, found through product databases, or recognized from images to provide ingredient analysis.
- Barcodes and product identifiers: If detected or entered, barcodes, GTINs, SKUs, and similar product identifiers may be used to look up product information.
- Images and screenshots: If you use image OCR, visible-tab capture, or vision fallback features, the extension may process a screenshot or product image to extract ingredient text or identify the product.
- Analysis results and feedback: We may process risk flags, matched and unmatched ingredients, confidence scores, debug diagnostics, and feedback you submit to improve analysis quality.
- Extension settings and local identifiers: The extension stores settings, feature preferences, scan history, favorites, anonymous local identifiers, and local cache entries in Chrome storage so features work between sessions. Some preferences use Chrome sync storage and may be synced by Chrome depending on your browser settings.
Account Information
- Email address and sign-in tokens: If you verify a subscription, use magic-link sign-in, request preference sync, contact support, or subscribe to Pro, we collect your email for account management, authentication, support, and payment workflows. A one-time, expiring token in the sign-in link is handed to the extension for verification and is not verified by the callback webpage.
- Manufacturer submissions: If a manufacturer submits lab data, we collect contact email, company and product details, report links, report summaries, structured lab results, and review notes to verify product data before it affects scores.
- Synced preferences: If you enable account sync, sensitivity selections, preset selections, personal avoid lists, baseline statistics, sync metadata, and optionally scan history may be synced with our service.
- Payment information: Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive subscription status and limited billing metadata from Stripe, but we do not receive or store your full card number.
- Operational data: Our services may receive standard server logs such as request time, route, response status, IP address, browser user agent, and error information for security, debugging, fraud prevention, and reliability.
How We Use Your Information
- To extract, normalize, and analyze product ingredients and return ingredient concern, preference, and confidence assessments.
- To look up products in public databases when a page does not provide a complete ingredient list.
- To remember your settings, avoid lists, scan history, favorites, and local caches.
- To sync preferences across devices when you choose to sign in and use sync.
- To process subscription status, entitlement checks, account deletion, and customer support requests.
- To improve ingredient matching, product lookup, explanation quality, diagnostics, security, and service reliability.
Data Storage & Security
We use security measures designed to protect user data:
- Data transmitted between the extension, our web services, and third-party service providers is sent over HTTPS/TLS.
- Local preferences, caches, scan history, favorites, and feature settings are stored in Chrome storage on your device. Preferences stored with Chrome sync storage may be synced by Chrome depending on your browser settings.
- Synced account data is stored by our Cloudflare-hosted backend and is associated with your account email or authentication session.
- Payment processing is handled by Stripe; we do not store full payment card details.
- We restrict human access to user data except when needed for support with your consent, security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or aggregated internal operations.
Third-Party Services
We share user data only as needed to provide or improve LabelGauge, comply with law, protect users and services, or complete a business transfer with required notice or consent. The services we use include:
- Google Chrome and Chrome Sync: Provide extension storage APIs and may sync Chrome sync storage data according to your browser settings.
- Cloudflare: Hosts our web app, API, storage, caching, security, and content delivery.
- OpenFoodFacts and OpenBeautyFacts: Public product databases used for barcode, product, brand, and ingredient lookup.
- PubChem: Public chemical database used to identify or normalize ingredient names.
- OpenAI: May process product names, ingredient text, analysis context, and, when enabled by a feature, image-derived content to generate educational explanations or assist product identification. We do not send payment card data to OpenAI.
- Stripe: Processes payments, checkout sessions, subscription status, and related billing records.
- Resend: Processes your email address and sign-in-link message content when we send account authentication emails.
Subscriptions and Product Results
LabelGauge Pro is an optional recurring subscription that adds clearly identified power-user features and higher authenticated usage limits. Core ingredient scanning remains available without a paid subscription.
Subscription status does not change ingredient scores, concern flags, matching confidence, evidence explanations, or personal preference results.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use user data for personalized, retargeted, or interest-based advertising.
- We do not collect web browsing activity except when required for the user-facing page analysis and product lookup features you use.
- We do not collect passwords, authentication cookies, or full payment card numbers.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time

Data Retention
- Local extension data: Stored on your device until you delete it, clear extension storage, uninstall the extension, or use in-product deletion controls.
- Analysis caches: Kept temporarily to provide faster repeat analysis and reduce duplicate lookups, then deleted or overwritten.
- Synced preferences and account data: Kept until you delete your account, disable sync and request deletion, or the data is no longer needed to provide the service.
- Feedback, diagnostics, and operational logs: Kept only as long as needed for support, quality improvement, security, abuse prevention, and reliability.
- Payment and transaction records: Kept as required for tax, accounting, fraud prevention, dispute handling, and legal compliance.
Account and Data Deletion
You can delete local extension data by clearing extension storage or uninstalling the extension. If you use account sync, you can request deletion of synced account data, preferences, and associated records by contacting adam@ridireresearch.com. Some records may be retained when required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, or dispute-resolution purposes.
Children's Privacy
Our service is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via email or in-app notification.
